Chaar Sahibzade

A reminder of the past...

Last week, we went to go watch Chaar Sahibzade. It was my husband, little brother kuljeet, little sister harinder, mom, and my nana ji (mom's dad), we were all eager to see the movie. Kuljeet was the most excited one of all, he loves listening to our history and shows a passion for our culture/religion. He previously went to go see Saadda Haq with us too and asked many questions trying to understand what happened. Therefore, I was excited to see this reaction to this movies; especially since it was animated.

If your not familiar with Sikh history, let me give a brief overview of this film. Guru Gobind Singh ji, our last of ten gurus, sacrificed the lives of his 4 sons aka Chaar Sahibzaade for religion, injustice, and tyranny of the Mughals.

When the movie started, I immediately noticed that the animated characters were very well done. Each of the Sahibzade were beautifully characterized. Their punjabi was so polite and rich with culture (which I expected). What I didn't except was to be so emotional over an animated movie. I thought if there were actual actors, I would be more attached, but I was wrong. I cried numerous times throughout the movie.

I also appreciated the fact the Guru ji was shown but no one voiced for him. At first, I was a bit skeptical how this would work but when I saw it... I was impressed. It is hard to this but they did a great job.

I'm not going to go into scene by scene to tell you how much I loved it... you just have to see it yourself. Take the whole family, reconnect your kids, little cousins, nieces and nephews with our rich history of sikhism. I love the fact that our future generation now has a well depicted movie of our history. Making the film into 3-D was a great idea, I personally didn't watch it 3-D but that will definitely get any kids attention.

At the end of movie, we left with tears rolling down our cheeks and thinking how distant we have become from our roots. The chota Sahibzade spoke with such pride, confidence, and passion about sikhi that it re-energize us as future generation. My nana ji, who lost his own son during the 1984 attack on the Golden Temple, had puffy eyes and red nose from crying. Kuljeet was left speechless, I think that the movie was so well done that he understood what happened and why it happened, leaving him very more passionate about being a guru sikh.

Great job Harry Baweja! You have two thumbs up and a standing ovation from my family and I. Even chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, loved it so much that he stated no tax will be charged on this movie! Famous actors like Shilpa Shetty, Tabu, Raj Kundra, and Bipasha Basu were all at the launch premier. It took Harry Baweja couple of year to make the film, perfecting and gathering correct information about history... but it was well worth the wait.

Looking forward for more movies like these to watch with my kids in the future.

Don't Suit Me Up!

Modern Indian

When family events comes around, I always have a hard time picking what outfit to wear. Indian suits can be heavy and very form fitting; which is fine.. When I'm in the mood to get dolled up. But not when your tired, don't feel good, and/or lazy. In addition, I'm still labeled as an newly wed I can't go to in-law occasion wearing jeans and a shirt or cotton Indian suit. BIG NO NO!

I think I found an answer to my prays! Zahra Saeed outfit are so versatile. I can dress them up or down, Indian or western. I just can't get enough.

For this family dinner, I wore a turquoise top with stone work done in the middle. The top is long; it went down to my ankles but there was a slit starting from my hip.
I pairs it with light brown leggings and a black sleeveless cover up. The cover up was silk in the front so the texture of the top and cover up were the same.

I apologize for not having the best pictures. I just couldn't not take picture of the makeup before my camera battery died.

Pop Goes the Weasel

Pimple Popping

Pimples, we all hate them. They always seem to pop up when you least expect it. No matter how much you try, they don't go away without a fight. Trying all those natural remedies and harsh medication sometimes won't do it either.

It's important understand what casues the pimple first to avoid them from popping up. It could be because of health issues, diet, or simply sanitary issue with makeup/cleansing face.

Things to really think about that could be causing your pimples:
  • Are you eating oily food?
  • How often are you cleaning your brushes?
  • Do you have bangs? Do you tend you move your bangs often?
  • Are you drinking enough water?
  • Are you stressing?
  • Are you getting enough sleep?
  • Have you recently done a detox?
  • What kind of products are you using?
  • Are you eating alot of fatty food?
These are just few of questions to consider that might be causing pimples.

A good reference is this reflexology map for the face. This will help you determine what is causing the pimples. Topically, inflammation around the jaw bone and chin are hormonal. Also if your having differently popping the pimple is could be because your not hydrated, so drink more water

Things not to do first:
  • DO NOT PICK WITH YOUR NAILS
  • DO NOT POP WITH A NEEDLE
  • DO NOT POP WITH DIRTY HANDS
  • DO NOT LEAVE AN OPEN PIMPLE
Now what to do:
  • Wash your hands
  • Create a mountain with the pimple being the center
  • Continue applying pressure until it pops, within the mountain formation
  • White fluid/creamy will come out.. which is good! thats the dirty
  • Stop once blood starts coming than apply pressure on top to stop the blood

Ok so now the pimple has been emptied out of its dirt. Now you can do a couple of different things. Some put toothpaste, which helps with healing process. If your in a esthetic setting you can apply galvanic to the pimple to completely clear it from bateria and close it. DO NOT KEEP PICKING AT IT! Its important to just leave it alone now. If you have benzoyl peroxide you apply this as well. Note that you should not apply this to all over the face and only apply overnight. Benzoly Peroxide is very harsh.

Look At The World Through My Eyes

Prospective

Through out the years, I have been becoming more and more of a believer of karma and positive energy. I know some people think it's all bull crap but I feel you have to really experience it to believe it.
It's not that I was negative,  it's just in the past I lived for that day and left the aftermath for another day. Later those action kicked me in the but. No fun.
I been through some ups and downs. And I realize that it all depends on my outlook on the situation. I can take it with anger, hate, or disappointment... or flip it around and make it a experience, new door opening, or even a sign for something bigger and better.
So now I view life in a different way. I don't let anything bring me down. Now that doesn't mean I don't get upset,  I do but I'm quick to turning it around. I let out all my tears with pain out then wipe them dry with a new action plan.
That is why I always try to post positive qoutes and pictures. You never know what another person may be going through;  maybe they need positive energy to get out of the "drag me down" situation.
Love. Laugh. Spread the positive energy. Enjoy life every second you get!

Beige and Bold

New York / Paris
Woke up on a Thursday morning & felt a little stylish and a bit of a bum. So I was confused what feeling to go with. Well this outfit gave me a bit a both worlds. Comfortable, lightweight, and cotton material bottom has a knee - high slit. The top is same too; belly showing top is made of thin cotton material. I wore a gold tube top bra underneath.

#MAIC2014

Emotional Roller Coaster

Loren Ridinger and I

Another exciting Market America Convention just finished. This was my first International Convention, and boy was it amazing! Reconnected with my business partners and met new ones. After seeing the momentum, vision, and bonds at the World Conference, this was a recharge.

On the bus way to North Carolina, we shared our testimonials about product, goals for this convention, and our reason for doing the business. The time between convention some of our business partners went through difficult times. As each person shared, eyes would water up and make everyone emotional. It was interesting to see how comfortable everyone was to share personal issues. Hearing all the stories and goals, you felt energize to make a significant change.

Motives Mavens on stage

Day 1 of the Convention, we got to the Colosseum bright and early. As we drink our Isotonix and munched on breakfast, we listened to partners from out of state sharing with us how they are expanding the business. So far have expanded into Spain, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. When the doors opened, we rushed in to get the best seats in the house; and of course we always do! (Thanks to our amazing team partners) First day started off with a bang! Exciting new technology was introduced, Motives Mavens made an appearance, and Scottie Pippen spoke about Prime Joint Support. One of my favorite part is always Sarah Rose Stack explaining the benefits of the Webcenter. She is an inspirational and wonderful person.

Maria Checa and I
At the end of the convention, our bodies were tried but not our brains. All the information was a overload but there still a burning desire to learn more. First day ended with a bang too! Jamie Fox, who was introduced to the business by Fat Joe, preformed on stage! The entire Colosseum was up and dancing.

Backstage with JR Ridinger

Day 2 was a longest day of the Convention. Like the day before we came to the Colosseum early and got amazing seat. Before the convention began, I walked around the Colosseum gathering information about the various "majors" Market America has to offer. Marc Ashley, showed us the new features add to our back office, website, and the apps launched. Everyone cheered in excitement hearing all the wonderful additions to our business. Later a few of our team members, including me, were invited to be on stage with +JR Ridinger , our CEO. It was a surprising shock. My heart was beatings so fast & I couldn't stop shaking. The adrenalin rush was actually thrilling. We were on stage to assist in showing the ABC pattern. It was truly an blessing and honor. After an exciting day at the convention, we headed back to our hotel to get ready for the Gala.

Queeny, Lisa, Me, and Ruby
The Gala was defiantly a memorable experience. We wore our best dresses and suits. The seated dinner was delicious, the decoration was beautiful, and atmosphere were incredible. The CEO JR gave a very touching speech than Fat Joe came on stage. He always gets the whole audience pumped up. He gave examples of situation he experience and struggled with even as a famous rapper, as an Unfranchise Business Owner. Afterwards the team headed back to our hotel to do our own award ceremony. As each presenter introduced the award to the winner, the rest of us would cheer knowing it was well deserved. The winner would gave a touching quick little speech which would make the rest of us cry. Everybody's speech was touch however Ruby's, my business partner and upline, really hit it home. Maybe we have similar issues or because we clicked together like sisters. Whatever it was, it made me a believer... that I can do this & I will! All of us laughed and cried as she gave her speech with her squeeze little voice.

Last & Final, Day 3. After an late night, it was hard to get up in the morning. However the passion to succeed was stronger than wanting extra few hours to sleep. +Loren Ridinger  and Marc Ashley presented amazing cutting edge programs to make the business even better. Amber Ridinger introduced new products in the DNA Miracles line. The OPC-3 chewable gummies are AMAZING! Than when you think things couldn't get better... Fat Joe takes over the stage! He shared more stories about his experience in the business so far.

An Electricifying Affair

Electric Green and Glimmering Gray

Since this Spring, I have been waiting to wear this outfit. I love the loose fitting and the multi-way I can wear it. I can wear it as a dress (without leggings), or an Indo/Paki outfit (with leggings), and even a swimming suit cover-up. The fabric is light and airy... it feels like I'm wearing nothing! The simple embroidery around the neckline is white and gray. The delicate bead work is beautifully done, not too heavy, just enough to make the outfit look elegant.

Warm Parathas with Garam Chai

Breakfast at the Ghumans

Today the hubby was home and I had the energy this morning to make a topically Punjabi breakfast. Usually we just have a coffee or chai, fruit, eggs, and or something else. With our busy and constantly changing schedule we do not have time to sit down and eat. So this morning was perfect!

I started off making the dough in our kitchen aid mixer... (absolutely love it! No more kneading the dough by hand!) than on the side I scrambled eggs with our Indian spices: salt, pepper, garam masala, ginger power, cumin seed, and red pepper power. I took out my waffle maker to make the eggs... this is a great alternative that me and my husband love! You pour the eggs on the waffle maker and close it && within seconds it's DONE!

So after the eggs were done, I started making the parathas. You will need plain flour, oil (of your choice, I like olive oil or grape seed oil), and salt.

  • Make small round dough balls, then you roll them out until they are thin.
  • Pour oil and salt in the middle. Spread the mix with your figure over the entire dough.
  • Fold the sides of the round dough, so they are over lapping one another
  • Than do the same thing again with the remained sides... It should be a square now!
  • Now you place it on a hot griddle. Cook both sides until its golden brown... Wa La !

Now since this blog is about skin. I have to say this can be a heavy and oily breakfast. BUT you can substitute ingredients to make it healthy. Like use whole wheat dough, do not use too much salt, use a healthier oil & not use too much.

We usually eat it with homemade yogurt on the side and chai... There you go. That was our breakfast this morning.

Length Does Matter

Long Lashes

Over the years of wearing lashes for photo shoots and parties,  my lashes have gotten thin and not as thick. Being a naive young adult, I would pull off the fake lashes. Yes, I know that was really stupid. But in my defense... I was too sleepy and wanted then off!

Working in the beauty field, I get to try alot of products and services. I been meaning to try Latisse but never really thought I needed or can committee to the routine. After seeing my thin and not so thick lashes in a picture it was time to give Latisse a try.

We sell Latisse at Astoria Med spa. I use it every other night. I wet the applicator that comes with it and apply 1 drop of the solution to the applicator. Also I alternative which I eye apply first.

I been using it for couple of weeks and I already see the difference!  I love it!

Wearing fake lashes once in awhile is perfectly fine... but you have to know how to remove them!! Use eye makeup remove to soften the glue or baby oil. It does only take 1 minute.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to make an appointment with me, Supreet,  at Astoria Laser Clinic.

This Little Piggy when to the market… This little Piggy got Laser done!

Laser Toe Fungus

I know this is not a really exciting topic, but did you know 25 million Americans have Onychomycosis; Toenail Fungus. Toenails become thick and turn yellow or blue and black. This ugly discoloration can be prone to swimmer, athletes, and walking barefoot in public areas. Some can be genetically prone to getting the infection too. Ladies usually get it from unsanitary Nail shops.

Total Diva star, Jay Uso, gets toe fungus from an injury while wrestling. His girlfriend, Trinity, get the fungus too because it is contagious. Yup. It is contagious. And yes it can be caused by an injury.

It used to be you go to the doctor and get a prescription for the infection. Most of the medication are harsh to the liver, require blood work, and frequency doctor follow ups. Plus for people that have other health issues, they are unable to take the medication because of contradiction. Not to mention, the prescription are usually ineffective.

With new technology, Doctors and med spas are offering an alternative treatment. Laser Toenail Fungus. It is a quick 10 minute treatment. Depending on the severity of the fungus, it can take couple of sessions before the fungus is completely removed. It is a painless treatment and there’s no side-effectives. Post treatment is easy too… Simply stay away from area that could inhabit fungus.
[Keep in mind FDA hasn’t approved this treatment so it is being used as a “off label” treatment.]
There is no published evidence of efficacy, we just know it works! Doctors don’t fully understand how the laser affect the fungus. I believe the laser deliveries heat to the fungus causing the fungus to burn off.  Some say the laser heats the fungus cause the body’s natural defense to clear the fungus. Either way, the treatment is a great alternative to the medication to Onychomycosis.

Now ladies don’t cover it with nail polish… Get it treated! We offer this treatment at Astoria Med Spa.

iPixel

Fractional Laser

iPixel is the fractional laser we have here at Astoria. I know most of you are thinking... why did you do it? you are so young, you didn't need it, you are crazy! However when you see the effect it had on my skin, you will realize it was defiantly needed.
This treatment helps with:
  • Sun Damage
  • Acne Scars
  • Hyper pigmentation & Uneven skin tones
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Promotes healthy skin growth
It uses pinpoint laser beams to penetrate beneath the skins surface to eliminate old and damage skin. Later the body's own natural healing process will replace the damage skin with fresh, glowing, and healthy skin!
Before the iPixel
I started with cleaning my skin with a good cleanser that will remove all oils and debris.

After I applied ointment
The beautiful Nuha doing my treatment
Immediately after treatment
My talented co-worker Nuha performed the treatment on me. She covered my eyes because it is a laser and you want to protect your eyes. As you can see my face was red immediately after the treatment. For test purposes, I tried two different post care products. Left side of the face was Resurfix and right was Combat-Ready Balm. You need to apply post care products to assist in the healing process and protect your skin from the environment. On top of these products, I also put SPF 50.
...Couple of hours after the treatment
Just a couple of hours later my face was starting the healing process. Started to get brownish- reddish, meaning it was starting to scab. Even though you don't see in the picture, but I wore big sunglasses and a hat to protect my face from the sun. It was very important to do this because otherwise you can give yourself hyperpigmentation!!! You don't want that!!!
Day 2
Day 2

The next day my face continued to scab and turn more brown. I applied both of the post care products with SPF.

Day 3
Third day I was completely brown. My face was starting to feel stiff because of the scabbing. However when I applied the post care products, it felt much better. The products kept my skin moisturized and protected.

Day 4

Day 4
Fourth day I began to peel around my mouth. The peeling always usually starts from the mouth because we use this muscle the most. I was still working during my healing process, so I was talking clients and explaining what I got done.

Fifth day the peeling was spreading further up my cheeks. I was still appling left side Resurfix and right side Combat-Ready Balm with a SPF spray of 50. At night, I washed my face with gentle cleanser at home and applied a light moisturize. Despite getting this procedure done, you still need to continue with a home-care regime.
Day 5
Day 5
Day 5
Day 5
Sixth day the peeling of the scabbing was almost all gone. When I was washing my face morning and night the peeling was rubbing off. It was important to remind, while peeling DO NOT PICK at your skin, DO NOT PEEL the scabs. If you do... you run the run the risk of hyperpigmentation by prematurely peel the skin. DO NOT EXFOLIATE your skin during the healing process. DO NOT USE ANY BRUSHES. Your skin is already exfoliating and peeling therefore it will just irritate the skin and cause hyperpigmentation.
Day 6
Day 6

Day 6
Day 6
Day 7

OK last day for me was day seven. The only peeling left was around my hairline and sideburns because those muscles we don't use as much. But however, with washing my face with a gentle cleaner the scabbing fell off.
Now to answer all your questions...
  • my acne scars are gone
  • my skin is even
  • my skin lighter
  • my skin brighter
  • my skin healthier
  • my sun damage is gone
  • my skin is fuller with new collagen
  • and even though some of you think I was too young to do it, that's not true. Doing an aggressive once in a while for my age group is good. It will prevent aging and help remove all the sun damage that had accumulated from earlier years.
Day 7
Day 7
Day 7

The test I did with the post care... Combat-Ready Balm was the best. Despite with my oily skin type it was able to moisturize and heal my skin. Resurfix gave me mila, whiteheads and oily feeling.
Check out the video of the treatment on our facebook page : Astoria Laser Clinic & Med Spa
